Without Fun But Hope: U.S. Independence Day 2020

OPINION |

Every year, the 4th of July has been a day of immense happiness for every American. Parades, fireworks, picnics, carnivals, baseball games, barbecues, speeches, ceremonies, and only god knows how many events mark Independence Day every year. From kids to adults, countless Americans look forward to this every year.

But this year, the 4th of July is going to be a remarkable day in history as none of these events are going to be organized. A majority of the countries around the world are fighting against a pandemic. Covid-19 has caused severe loss of life across the globe, and currently there is no vaccine to aid in the fight against it.

This is surely going to be the saddest Independence Day in the history of America due to staggering loss of life from Covid-19. With all the canceled parades and fireworks, endless protests and political tensions, people will have to find solace in virtual events.

Hope is the only thing holding people together as 2020 continues, and hope will be what carries us into Independence Day 2021 with double zeal and enthusiasm.

Next year, we will be looking back and thinking that we made it.
